Every year, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day honours the children who never came back from residential schools, the survivors of these schools, and the families and communities affected by them. Public acknowledgment of the sorrowful history and enduring consequences of residential schools plays a crucial role in the journey towards reconciliation.
"Our team continues to build knowledge about Indigenous ways of being and learning to help us create safe and respectful spaces. We are grateful for the teachings we have received from elders and knowledge keepers in the learning opportunities we have attended. We are choosing materials that are more representative of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people, partnering with Indigenous serving organizations, and creating and holding space for our program participants to have conversations about this important topic. The Centre is committed to Truth and Reconciliation, not just on this one day of the year, but every day.'' ~ Kim Chung, CFL Executive Director
