On January 27th, Family Literacy Day will be celebrating the 25th anniversary, a milestone that marks a quarter-century of promoting the joy and importance of reading and learning together as a family.

Since its inception in 1999, Family Literacy Day has become a cherished annual event, engaging thousands of schools, libraries, literacy organizations, and communities worldwide. At its core, the initiative emphasizes the profound impact of dedicating time each day to read or participate in educational activities with children.

This year, the theme is "Let's have a family party!" - inviting families to turning learning into a festive affair. From preparing delicious meals to singing songs and playing games, the possibilities for educational enjoyment are endless when done together.

To enhance your celebration, we will be sharing a wealth of literacy activities and resources from January 2nd to January 27th. Keep an eye on our social media channels to access these valuable materials and make your family literacy party truly memorable.

As I sit here among boxes that are not even half packed yet for our office move in January, I'm taking a moment, not to procrastinate (really), but to reflect on this past year for the Centre. It has been a busy one!

This year our organization has grown in many ways. For example,
• more programs moved back to in-person,
• new partnerships,
• working with national partners on different projects supporting family

  literacy,
• the largest Wine and Words fundraising event ever.

One of our major projects that started this fall is the update of the vision of the Centre and planning our future direction. We’ve changed how we approach and think about these processes which has been very exciting so far. If you would like to add your voice to this process, we invite you to answer our 3 question survey (click on the button below). We want to gather information from as many people as possible!

These examples are just a glimpse of the events that unfolded this year. Additionally, we've been preparing for our upcoming move, which is finally happening! All of these accomplishments wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of all of our staff, board, volunteers, funders, donors, sponsors, partners, supporters, and most importantly, our learners.

Thank you to everyone for your ongoing work and support. We wish you all the best in 2024 and hope you have the time to slow down and reflect on the incredible things you’ve been part of this year.
