Exciting Storytelling Events with the Young Alberta Book Society

The Centre for Family Literacy is thrilled to partner with the Young Alberta Book Society to bring families a series of events featuring a special guest: an expert in oral storytelling! With support from the Edmonton Arts Council and the City of Edmonton, the Young Alberta Book Society works to foster literacy and a love of reading among young people by connecting them with Alberta’s literary artists and their inspiring work.

These storytelling sessions will engage families in the magic of stories filled with imagination and wonder. Did you know that storytelling is a powerful way for young children to explore the world, expand their vocabulary, and grow as confident speakers? Storytelling helps build essential language skills and paves the way for future writers.

We’re looking forward to these memorable events filled with laughter, excitement, and fun for everyone!

United Way Campaign – Coats for Kids & Families

Many families in our region can’t afford to purchase the clothing they need to stay warm during Alberta’s harsh winters. This year, the need is even greater as people continue to face the financial challenges. You can help!

Join CFL in supporting United Way’s Coats for Kids & Families initiative by donating clean, gently used, outgrown, or new winter wear for men, women, and children.

Donations will be accepted from November 25 to December 13 and can be dropped off at the Centre Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Let’s spread warmth together!

Join us in celebrating I Read Canadian Day, a nationwide initiative to inspire a love for Canadian stories and authors! This special day encourages children and adults alike to pick up a Canadian book, explore our country’s unique voices, and share in the joy of reading. Let’s support and discover amazing Canadian authors together!

For families with children we recommend The Great Thundercloud by Brenda Schurko and Sock Soup by Cheryl Fountain - two wonderful books by local Edmonton authors. Let’s support and discover amazing Canadian authors together!
